Cambridge, 24 May 2023: Deeptech Labs, Europe’s only deeptech-specific accelerator programme, unveils its latest cohort of pre-series A companies.
The Cambridge based VC accelerator’s latest intake includes; end-to-end edge federated machine learning platform OctaiPipe (T-DAB.AI), next generation high frequency wireless design platform Tera|Si, quantum networking pioneers Nu Quantum, and rapid pathogen detector Pictura Bio. Returning alumni presenting at the demo day includes next generation battery technology solutions provider Anaphite, synthetic data solutions for AI training from Mindtech and next generation optical processors developer Salience Labs.
The UK remains the top country in Europe for deep tech, followed by France, Germany, and Sweden. Europe’s Global VC investment in deep tech was valued at $52 billion between 2020-2022, more than China ($34 billion) but falls behind the US ($166 billion).
Deeptech Labs was founded in 2021 to provide capital and the specialised expertise and support that deep tech startups require. The mentorship-based programme draws on the expertise of more than 400 deep tech founders, operators and investors who bring their experience to support the next generation of deep tech companies. These serial entrepreneurs, investors and industry practitioners – have invested almost 3,000 hours into mentoring and advising the cohort founders.
Deeptech Labs tracks and analyses thousands of pre-Series A European deep tech companies every year – the top 0.2% are then invited to join its accelerator programme. Since launching in 2021, 24 early-stage companies have graduated from Deeptech Labs accelerator programme.
Miles Kirby, CEO of Deeptech Labs, said: “We have all the raw ingredients here to make the UK and Europe the global leader in deep tech. But we need to transform these raw ingredients into viable scalable businesses. They need expert support from people who have walked this path before, and they need forward looking investors. At Deeptech Labs, our mission is to help our cohort companies get further and faster than they would alone by providing them with expert advisors and access to a global network of deep tech experts and investors.”
Isabela Chick, Partner, Investments and Programme, said: “Our latest cohort of companies, T-DAB, Tera|Si, Nu Quantum and Pictura Bio are solving some of the world’s most pressing challenges, and breaking new ground on some of the most disruptive technologies to do so. It’s a privilege to invest and work with the founders and leadership teams of these businesses to help them achieve their potential and bring their products to market. Since we launched Deeptech Labs, we’ve worked with companies that are addressing 15 of the UN’s 17 sustainable development goals.”
