Deeptech Labs joins Investing in Women Code to drive female entrepreneurship

Deeptech Labs signs up alongside 180 leading banks, VCs and investors to support diversity in access to finance

The Code is an important stepping stone towards a more diverse distribution of capital

Investment in all-female founder teams led by Code companies is at 9%, up from 6% in 2020 and compared to a benchmark of 7% in 2021 for the market as a whole

Deeptech Labs is pleased to announce it is now a signatory to the Investing in Women Code to further unlock the talent pool of female entrepreneurs across the UK. The Code is a commitment to support the advancement of female entrepreneurship in the United Kingdom by improving female entrepreneurs’ access to tools, resources and finance from the financial services sector.

By signing up, Deeptech Labs joins over 180 leading banks, VCs and investors that aim to send a positive signal to entrepreneurs who are looking for funding, and to other investors who can be confident that organisations are committed to supporting diversity in access to finance. Investment in all-female founder teams led by Code companies is at 9%, up from 6% in 2020 and compared to a benchmark of 7% in 2021 for the market as a whole.

The deeptech sector encompasses over a quarter of Europe’s start-up ecosystem, with European deep tech companies valued at €700bn and rising. Deeptech Labs believes that with the support afforded by the Investing in Women Code, the number of female deeptech entrepreneurs in Europe will grow and in turn accelerate the overall European innovation ecosystem.

Isabela Chick, Partner, Programme and Investments at Deeptech Labs, said: “With over 60% of pitch decks for VC funding coming from all-male teams and just 12% coming from all-female teams, the continuing low proportions of funding both requested and received by women-led businesses and female founders is clear. That’s why initiatives such as the Investing in Women Code are an important stepping stone towards achieving a more diverse distribution of capital, and therefore unlocking the creativity and skill of women entrepreneurs across the UK.”
